Report

I went 3-1. I felt like I didn't open enough removal in my pool. Most of my removal was in black, but my powerful cards were white - red dwarves. I also wanted to play all the cool rares I opened.

Equipment

I call Sting, Bilbo's Sword,
"The French Sword" in my games.

Why?

~Hone, Hone, Hone~

Turns out Wizards of the coast has finally figured out how to fix equipment in limited. The good equipment all affect the board upon entering the battlefield, by either:

  • Auto equipping. (Sting, Bilbo's Sword)
  • Coming with a body. (Dwarven Shortsword)
  • Removing a body. (Crude Bent Blade)
  • Just being cheap, with low equip costs. (Well-Worn Spatula)

Notable cards

No lie, Thorin, Mountain King is really good.
You reattach all your equipment onto your strongest threat, remove your opponent's biggest creature and just swing in for a massive chunk of damage.

Misty Mountain Raider absolutely bodies.
The Red-White/Black decks are naturally aggressive, and piling on 2 power on board whenever you swing is back breaking.

I cast The Misty Mountains Cold four times,
getting the dragon out thrice. It was too slow in one game, but won the other three.

Retrospective on the match I lost

Game 1

It went perfect for my opponent. Their curve was the following:

  1. Nasty Little Rabbit
  2. Attercop, attack for 1
  3. Beorn's Hospitality followed by a land, attacking for 6 (!)
  4. Quarrel, attack for 9
  5. Quarrel, attack for 10

With deathtouch fights killing my defenders, a growing rabbit, and a growing deathtouch spider, I stood no chance.

Game 2

Went my way. This time, I curved out, and Thorin killed their blocker, and menacy attacky winny gamey.

Game 3

I got magicked! It was a great hand; 3 lands, and a decent curve... And then I drew no more lands. By the time I drew my 4th, I was too far behind. If I'd draw the 4th, it might've gone my way!

Constructed Deck

The 40-card I cobbled together:

Sealed Pool

Everything I opened at the prerelease:

The Hobbit deck I built, with possible cards in those colours The rest of the Hobbit sealed pool

Note how I have no non-creature spells in green. My blue is okay, but there's no bombs or removal that you want to play. Black was in contention, but with no big bombs, I decided to go Boros Dwarves.

What would you have gone?
